Strategy:
A good plan is based on experience.

Before you set off, know where to go and where you are right now. And ideally, you've been down that road a lot before. Practice beats all theory.

Of course, you can't do it all without theory. I studied the subject and have always updated my knowledge along the way, including as a freelance professor at the University of Lüneburg in marketing and consumer behavior.

But without constantly updating and putting your knowledge into practice, you won't produce anything good apart from pretty plans. Read more…

Change doesn't have to hurt

Mark Twain nailed it so famously that “The only person who likes change is a baby with a wet diaper.” Employees, on the other hand, have a downright change angst, and even managers often do everything they can to avoid unpleasant topics until the next career move.

This is dangerous, because we live in an age of logarithmic change. Those who don't face up to it will be out of the game faster than they can say Kodak, Blackberry or Blockbuster. Yet change can be liberating, open up new perspectives, and hey, even be fun and release creative energies in the company. Read more…
